Scenes From a (multi) Cultural Life
For at least thirty years, one of the main topics of conversation among us has been "Diversity," an idea that often sails under the flag of "Multiculturalism." Many moons past, we started by talking about how to "create diversity," (as though we could!) and have progressed finally to the point at which we talk about how to "celebrate" it. But the lesson of my own life tells me that Diversity is simply the state of grace in which we Americans live.

Handcrafted, Artist-Decorated Benches Featured at 2008 Candlelight Dinner & Bench Auction—Sitting Pretty For PACE

The Act One Guild for Performing Arts Center Eastside (PACE), announces a major new public art and fundraising project to benefit PACE. Sitting Pretty For PACE will showcase 43 handcrafted, artist-decorated benches that will be up for auction at the 2008 Candlelight Dinner & Bench Auction on Nov. 1, 2008 at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue. After an extensive search and review process, 27 Northwest artists have been selected to use their creative skills to transform 29 large benches which are five feet long and 14 small benches which are three feet long into unique works of art. The benches are each handcrafted out of yellow cedar and iron by Rainchild Metal Works located on Camano Island, Wash.  [ more ]

PACE Announces Formation of Act Two Guild

The Performing Arts Center Eastside (PACE) is proud to announce the formation of the Act Two Guild. The new members were introduced to the PACE Board of Directors at the annual meeting held on June 10th at Medina’s Overlake Golf and Country Club. This newest Guild of 20 women adds to a growing corps of more than 150 volunteers who have made a commitment to raising community awareness and support for the future 2,000-seat Bellevue-based performing arts center scheduled to open in 2010.  [ more ]

Performing Arts Center Eastside (PACE) Receives $6 Million Grant for Capital Campaign

June 11, 2008
The Performing Arts Center Eastside (PACE) today announced a $6 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to support the completion of a new 2,000-seat performing arts facility in Bellevue, Washington. With this gift, the Campaign For PACE has received $30 million in contributions toward a capital and endowment campaign goal of $160 million.  [ more ]
