Tateuchi Center Programming
Tateuchi Center programming will reflect the vibrancy, sophistication, and preferences of its increasingly diverse audience. With more than 300 events projected for its inaugural season, the Center expects to serve more than 275,000 adults and children during its first full year of operation. Over the first 10 years, more than three million people are expected to attend as many as 3,200 events.
In its 2,000-seat Concert Hall, the Tateuchi Center will treat audiences to the world’s greatest national and international performances. A full range of programming will be carefully selected to appeal to all ages and tastes, and will include classical and pop concerts, ballet and contemporary dance, touring Broadway shows, international artists, family entertainment, renowned authors and speakers, emerging artists, and legendary performers. The center will attract a wide range of touring shows that would otherwise be unable to perform on the Eastside due to a lack of appropriate space. A sample season at the center might include:
- Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
- The Capitol Steps
- Midori
- Broadway On Tour
- Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company
- Lyle Lovett
- Ballet Folklorico de Mexico
- Harry Connick, Jr.
- Preservation Hall Jazz Band
- Joshua Bell
- Anoushka Shankar
- Paul Taylor Dance Company
- Ornette Coleman
- The Juilliard String Quartet
- Lang Lang
- John Mayer
- Ladysmith Black Mambazo
- Renee Fleming
- Wynton Marsalis
- Diana Krall
- Yo-Yo Ma
- Buddy Guy
- Youssou N’Dour
- Speakers Malcolm Gladwell, Thomas Friedman, Laurie Garret, Fareed Zakaria
Without a resident company, Tateuchi Center’s discretionary control of the performance calendar will also provide the flexibility to offer a parallel Eastside performance season for well-known local and regional arts organizations. These will include the Seattle Symphony, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Opera Young Artist Series, Bellevue Philharmonic, International Ballet Theatre, Seattle Men’s Chorus, and others.
The 250-seat Cabaret will offer a regular schedule of performances staged for smaller audiences such as jazz and blues ensembles, world music, singer-songwriters, spoken word artists, “new music,” and local performers.
